About Anita

In my younger days I used to be a healthy size 14, however over many years of life, work, stress and depression, coupled with bringing up two children on my own, the weight crept on. By my mid 40’s my weight had reached almost 17 stone. I used to buy baggy clothes and say I was happy in my body, looking back I can see I wasn’t.

By Christmas 2009, when I didn’t fit into some gifted XXL Christmas snoopy pyjamas I decided things had to change, it was time I became fitter and healthier.

To begin my transformation I started walking everywhere, I incorporated it into my weekly routine alongside swimming and a healthy diet. I gradually noticed small changes. Once I was more comfortable with my body, I gained confidence to join fitness groups.

I was then introduced to Nordic walking and with further encouragement power walking and fitness yoga.

After 2 years of healthy eating and walking I reached 11 stone and fitted comfortably into size 12-14 clothes.

Now, more than 10 years after the Christmas pyjama incident I am an Outdoor Fitness Instructor, helping others achieve their health, fitness and wellbeing goals.

What is Nordic walking?

Nordic Fitness is a great way to improve fitness; it gives you the benefits of exercising outdoors and is suitable for all levels.  Nordic Walking is completely different to general walking or hiking as with Nordic walking the individual uses poles which came from Cross country skiing in Finland.

The poles give the user the opportunity to exercise the whole body as they walk and at the same time support the major joints.

Nordic walking for a better, healthier life.

Had only my second Nordic Walking session this morning, and I absolutely loved it. Came home buzzing, and felt fit for anything that life could throw at me. The exercises also held during the walk are simple, but seem to work the whole body. Anita is a brilliant communicator, and her enthusiasm is very encouraging to a newcomer like me. I'll definitely take up the opportunity of joining more groups.

Living with rheumatoid arthritis and how it affects me does mean I have to be careful with the type of exercise I partake in. I needed something to maintain a good fitness level, but not add undue stress on joints and it needed to be an activity that will enable me to keep mobile. And I’ve found all that with Nordic walking. It’s strengthening my core, improving my balance and has quicken my walking pace. But these Nordic walking classes have given me so much more than that; I have made new friends, I’ve discovered new walks, explored new places, we laugh together, walk together, keep fit together. I love it. I’m hooked.

Kate

I have been nordic walking with Anita for several years. When I started I would arrive home red faced with the exertion but I persevered and I've never looked back. I love it. Not only have I improved my muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness but I have met many lovely people from all walks of life. The walks we do are so varied because of the fabulous area we live in. Anita is a concientious instructor making sure she talks to everyone on the walks so that you get the most out of the exercises. I would recommend North Norfolk Outdoor Fitness to anyone who wants to exercise and socialise in the outdoors with a great group of people.
